Stroll through this authentic village and let yourself be charmed by the precise movements of the artisans, the sound of the anvil, the bread oven, and even the bell of the 1900 school. Every detail tells the story of traditional craftsmanship in Ariège in the early 1900s.
An exceptional collection of antique objects and tools
Before the industrial era, every everyday object was crafted by passionate artisans. Les Forges de Pyrène preserves this living heritage with more than 100 ancient crafts and a collection of over 5,000 tools and utensils. The Musée des Métiers invites you to explore every corner and discover the history of each craft passed down from generation to generation.
The hammer mill – a treasure of industrial heritage
The hammer mill, classified as a Historic Monument, is a symbol of metallurgical activity in Ariège. Dating back to the mid-15th century, it offers a glimpse into traditional forging techniques, where the hammer transforms iron into cutting tools.
Lively and interactive workshops for young and old alike
Visitors can take part in lively craft workshops: blacksmithing, clog making, basket weaving, discovering the traditional bread oven, 1900s school, introduction to gold panning, and Pyrenean legends and tales. These activities bring the history of traditional crafts to life and spark children's curiosity, while immersing adults in the atmosphere of the early 20th century.
