In Montgailhard, near Foix, discover an iconic site in Ariège Pyrénées, dedicated to preserving the crafts and traditions of Pyrenean culture. This reconstructed village offers a real journey back to the 1900s, through lively and interactive demonstrations. The Forges de Pyrène invite you to relive the region's artisanal history through a captivating tour, ideal for a family day out in Ariège.

Avec jusqu’à 6 ateliers par jour, tous nos ateliers sont couverts, vous permettant de profiter de cette expérience enrichissante, même par temps pluvieux ou par forte chaleur / canicule.

🚧 Des travaux modifient temporairement la circulation depuis le centre-ville de Foix de 7h à 15h30 du lundi 27 au mardi 28 juillet, puis du mercredi 12 au jeudi 13 août.

Voici comment nous rejoindre pendant cette période :

🔹 Si vous venez depuis le centre-ville de Foix : La déviation se fait en direction de Toulouse afin de rejoindre la RN20, en direction de Montgailhard.

🔹 Pour tous les autres accès : L’accès aux Forges de Pyrène reste inchangé via la RN20, sortie 11 Montgailhard, l’itinéraire habituel.

Before the industrial era, every everyday object was crafted by passionate artisans. Les Forges de Pyrène this living heritage with more than 100 ancient crafts and a collection of over 5,000 tools and utensils. The Musée des Métiers invites you to explore every corner and discover the history of each craft passed down from generation to generation.

The hammer mill – a treasure of industrial heritage

The hammer mill, classified as a Historic Monument, is a symbol of metallurgical activity in Ariège. Dating back to the mid-15th century, it offers a glimpse into traditional forging techniques, where the hammer transforms iron into cutting tools.

Lively and interactive workshops for young and old alike

Visitors can take part in lively craft workshops: blacksmithing, clog making, basket weaving, discovering the traditional bread oven, 1900s school, introduction to gold panning, and Pyrenean legends and tales. These activities bring the history of traditional crafts to life and spark children's curiosity, while immersing adults in the atmosphere of the early 20th century.

Ouvert tous les jours en Juillet – Août de 9h à 17h et les mercredis pour « Les nocturnes de Pyrène » de 18h30 à 22h30 , avec jusqu’à 6 ateliers quotidiens, le site est entièrement couvert pour profiter de l’expérience, même en cas de pluie ou par forte chaleur. Les Forges de Pyrène, sont la destination idéale pour une sortie culturelle et familiale dans les Pyrénées Ariégeoises.
