A site accessible to all in the heart of Ariège

For many years, Les Forges de Pyrène has been committed to making its historic village, workshops, and activities accessible to as many people as possible. Thanks to a policy of continuous improvement and major work carried out in 2025, the site now welcomes visitors with disabilities in the best possible conditions.

At Forges de Pyrène, everyone should be able to discover, learn, and fully enjoy the experience.

Access and transportation:

· Agglo Bus shuttles – line 4 fromFoix, wheelchair accessible

· Bus platform redesigned for accessible boarding

· Drop-off zone for easy access

 

Parking:

4 spaces reserved for holders of a disabled parking permit, located right next to the site entrance.

Parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility located near the entrance to the site.
Reception desk with lowered section for visitors in wheelchairs.

Holders of disability cards have priority access when there is a wait at the checkout.

Prices:

For individuals, reduced rates are available upon presentation of a disability card:

– Adults: $12.50

– Youth (ages 5 to 17) €7.00

– Student (under 26) €8.00

If "support needs" are indicated, the accompanying person travels free of charge.

 

For groups:

The reduced group rate applies to visitors from specialized institutions and care facilities for people with disabilities. Free admission applies to accompanying persons depending on the number of participants requiring assistance.

General information

 

Staff training:

Staff in contact with the public (reception, entertainment) are trained and aware of how to welcome visitors with disabilities.

Guide dogs and service dogs:

Guide dogs and service dogs are accepted (and welcome) throughout the site. The same applies to guide dogs in training.

Wheelchair loan:

A wheelchair can be borrowed free of charge upon presentation of identification. It is also possible to reserve one before your visit by emailing info@forges-de-pyrene.com.

Loan of walking sticks with seats:

Folding chairs can be borrowed from the main reception desk upon presentation of identification.

Visitor information

Reception:

The reception desk is equipped with a magnetic loop.

Museums and events:

An "Easy to Read and Understand" (FALC) guide presents the site and its areas.

FALC sheets explaining the content of the activities are available.

Tours and activities for groups:

Special guided tours can be arranged for groups upon request. 

Physical disability

Accessible paths:

The guide map indicates access points for wheelchair users and families with strollers, with directions on how to get there.

Benches and seats are located along the entire route.

Guardrails, access ramps, and contrasting steps are installed throughout the site to ensure safe movement.

*For areas that are not wheelchair accessible, compensatory measures are available:
An interactive terminal located at the Museum of TraditionalCrafts allows visitors to watch a live demonstration of the hammer mill and view exhibits on the upper floor of the Iron Museum.

Visual impairment

A relief map of the site is available at the reception desk.

A large-print site map with the day's schedule of activities is available at the reception desk.

The museum labels are printed in large type.

Magnifying glasses are available on request at reception, upon presentation of ID.

Visitor assistance documents are currently being translated into Braille.

Many objects in the museum of trades can be touched.

Upon request, facilitators can allow participants to handle the tools used during demonstrations.

Hearing impairment

Descriptive sheets detailing the content of the activities are available upon request.

Mental disability

A simplified plan with pictograms and FALC activity sheets are available at reception.
